Defending national champions Sigatoka Methodist College showcased their rugby prowess yet again, achieving a commanding 24-0 victory over St. Teresa College in the Western Secondary Schools final at Churchill Park, Lautoka. Demonstrating a blend of physicality and tactical acumen, the Sigatoka Methodist girls established an early lead of 19-0 by halftime.
The team’s strategic attacks and sharp finishing were overwhelming for St. Teresa, who fought valiantly but struggled to counter the relentless offensive pressure. Despite being on the back foot, St. Teresa maintained a strong defense, refusing to concede easily in the second half. Nevertheless, Sigatoka Methodist’s depth and experience were decisive as they scored another try to secure a shutout win.
Team captain Adi Repeka Naivinivini expressed gratitude for the support received from faith, family, and their school, saying, “We know without God we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this win. We also want to thank our school, teachers, and especially our parents for their continued support. Our aim now is to defend our national title.”
This victory not only reaffirms Sigatoka Methodist’s position as a dominating force in youth rugby but also sets an optimistic tone as they prepare to defend their title in the upcoming Vodafone Raluve Championship. The collective spirit and determination displayed by the team are a testament to their character and commitment to continued excellence in the sport.
