Sigatoka Methodist College claimed their third consecutive Weet-Bix Raluve under-16 championship yesterday with a decisive performance. The final saw them overpower Niusawa Methodist High School, winning 20-0 with four unanswered tries.
Team manager Repeka Qalibokala noted that this year’s team is entirely new, as the previous players have moved up to the under-18 category. Despite being a fresh lineup, the players showcased impressive teamwork and skills, suggesting they had been playing together for a considerable time.
Qalibokala attributed their success to the talent of the players hailing from Nadroga, stating, “They are very talented rugby players.” The victory is sure to ignite celebrations in the rugby-loving town of Sigatoka.
The manager expressed gratitude towards the parents, especially mothers, emphasizing their vital role in supporting the team both emotionally and physically. The team benefited from the guidance of former Nadroga rugby players, who helped hone their skills and educate them about the sport’s rules.
Repeka Mudunavere, playing at number eight, was recognized as the Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
