Sigatoka Couple’s Murder Trial Set for November 3

The trial of Mohammed Naushad and Nazreen Nisha Khan, a couple from Sigatoka, is set to begin on November 3. They are charged with the murder of an 18-year-old student and Mr. Naushad also faces an additional charge of criminal intimidation. The couple is accused of forcing the victim to ingest a toxic substance during an incident at their residence in Maro, Sigatoka, dating back to June 30, 2022.

Represented by Samuela Heritage of Iqbal Khan and Associates, the defendants attended a court hearing where it was confirmed that all preliminary issues have been resolved. The State was represented by Laisiasa Baleilevuka, who stated that there were no pretrial issues remaining. Justice Hamza presided over the matter and has adjourned it for a proper trial.

Previously, the trial had been delayed because defense counsel required time to recover from eye surgery. This trial is particularly significant as it addresses tragic events that deeply affect the community of Sigatoka. The judicial process continues to emphasize the pursuit of justice and accountability.

As the trial date approaches, there is hope for a thorough and fair examination of the evidence, ensuring that the rights of all parties are respected. The outcome may provide closure for the families involved and the wider community grappling with this serious case.
