Playing for the Shop N Save Police rugby team at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament was a significant milestone for fullback Waisake Ravuiwasa. His debut was particularly meaningful as he had the opportunity to play alongside his older brother, tight head prop Inoke Ravuiwasa, contributing to their narrow victory against the Army, with a score of 20-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Ravuiwasa brothers hail from Tavuki, Taveuni, and have maternal ties to Susui, Vanuabalavu in Lau. They dedicated their triumph to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who served as a police officer at the Taveuni Police Station until his passing in June.
Waisake expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time. My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wished he was here to see us.”
Inoke has a rich history in rugby, having played for the Blues for the past nine years, further emphasizing the family’s dedication to the sport.
This story not only highlights the bond between the brothers but also serves as a reminder of the strength found in family ties and resilience, especially in honoring the memory of loved ones lost. It’s a heartwarming tale of perseverance and hope, inspiring others to cherish familial bonds and pursue their dreams against all odds.
