The director of Goundar Shipping Limited, George Goundar, has declined to comment on the grounding of one of its vessels, the MV Lomaiviti Princess VII (MV LPVII), near Moala Island on Wednesday evening. His decision to remain silent follows a reassuring statement from the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF), which confirmed the safety of all passengers aboard.
When reached for a comment, Mr. Goundar responded tersely, saying, “I have nothing to say to you, bye.” The MSAF reported that the MV LPVII had approximately 245 passengers and 33 crew members on board when it ran aground on the Cakova Reef at around 7:06 PM.
In its statement, MSAF emphasized that while the vessel has indeed run aground, there was no breach in the hull and no water has entered the ship. They confirmed that all passengers were safely transferred to another vessel dispatched by Goundar Shipping. MSAF also assured the public that they are taking immediate steps to handle the situation and are prioritizing the monitoring of the affected marine environment.
This incident highlights the importance of maritime safety and the quick response of regulatory authorities in ensuring passenger safety. The swift transfer to another ship showcases the preparedness of Goundar Shipping Limited in handling such emergencies effectively. As investigations and recovery efforts continue, the focus remains on maintaining safety and environmental protection in the region.
Overall, while the incident raises concerns, the proactive measures taken convey a sense of optimism that the situation is being managed responsibly and effectively.
