Goundar Shipping Limited has announced the cancellation of all its scheduled trips to Levuka, Natovi, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni, effective from midnight tonight. The company cited the unsettled weather conditions as the reason for this decision, prioritizing the safety of its passengers and crew. In a statement shared on social media, Goundar Shipping reassured travelers that they would be informed when services can safely resume.

This cancellation follows recent maritime challenges for Goundar Shipping, including incidents where vessels have faced emergencies. For instance, the MV Lomaiviti Princess VII ran aground near Moala Island, prompting a quick response that ensured the safety of all passengers. The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) confirmed none of the passengers were injured during that event, illustrating the effectiveness of safety protocols in place.

The decision to halt operations reflects a cautious approach by the shipping company amid unpredictable weather, emphasizing its commitment to safety. Such measures, while disruptive for travel plans, demonstrate the resilience of the maritime service in Fiji, ensuring that passenger safety remains the top priority even in challenging circumstances.

As the situation develops, Goundar Shipping intends to keep the public updated, highlighting a proactive communication strategy. This approach fosters reassurance among travelers, emphasizing a collective responsibility to prioritize safety during maritime journeys.
