Sharma Triumphs in Sigatoka’s Inaugural Golf Tournament

Jeral Sharma, a businessman from Sigatoka, claimed victory in the inaugural Sigatoka Electric Cooperate Golf amateur tournament held at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course over the weekend. After a competitive play-off against Ba school teacher Asish Chand, Sharma finished with a score of 76.

“It was a great outing, but a bit tough out there; I had to stick to the game,” Sharma remarked about his experience in the tournament.

In the competition, Sumith Perera topped the overall net score with an impressive 67, while veteran golfer Susie Yee won the overall net in the ladies’ category.

In the professional division, Taitusi Tuivuci emerged as the champion by shooting a par score of 72. Tomasi Tuivuna, the leader in the Fiji Order of Merit, finished closely behind with a score of 74, commenting, “It was hard luck, I guess, but that’s what it is in the green on game day.”

Golf course manager Avinesh Datt praised the excellent weather and the strong turnout for the event, expressing gratitude to the participants for their commitment to the last tournament of the year. Vijay Narayan, managing director of Sigatoka Electric Ltd, also expressed satisfaction with the turnout and optimism for future events, stating, “We can confirm that the event will be bigger and better next year.”

The tournament’s results highlighted multiple divisions of competitors, with various standout performers across A, B, and C grades, showcasing the diverse talent present in the local golfing community.

This event not only highlights the local talent in Sigatoka but also emphasizes the positive community spirit surrounding such gatherings. As the tournament is set to grow next year, it fosters hope for increased participation and a stronger golfing culture in the region.
