Sharks’ Triumph: A Gripping Finale in Fiji Rugby League

The Police Sharks emerged victorious against the Yasawa Saints in a thrilling finale at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, securing the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) Women’s Premiership title with a narrow 24-22 win.

After the match, a jubilant Police Sharks coach, Akuila Masi, shared his feelings about their hard-fought triumph. “It feels amazing to finally come out on top after last season’s disappointment. This win is a great sense of accomplishment and validation for all the hard work we put in,” Masi stated.

The Yasawa Saints showcased remarkable resilience, keeping the score tight until the closing moments. Masi acknowledged that it was the teamwork and relentless spirit of his players that ultimately paved the way for their victory. “We never gave up even when the game was so close. That made all the difference today,” he added.

The atmosphere was electric as the clock wound down, with the final outcome hanging in the balance. The Yasawa Saints, known for their toughness, pushed the Sharks to their limits. Masi noted, “It was nerve-wracking in those final moments. We knew Yasawa Saints were a tough opponent, and we had to stay focused and give it our all until the final whistle.”

Determined to redeem themselves after last year’s defeat, the victory this year has set a positive precedent for future seasons. Masi emphasized the importance of this win for the team’s future, stating, “This win sets the tone for next season. Our goal is to keep improving and maintain the same level of determination and teamwork. We want to defend our title and aim for even greater success.”

Masi also expressed his gratitude to those who stood by the team throughout the journey. “First of all, I want to thank the commissioner of Police and the Fiji Police for their unwavering support. This win wouldn’t have been possible without their belief in us. We hope we make them proud.”

While there are no specific celebration plans at the moment, the team is poised to relish their victory before focusing on the challenge of defending their title next season. In the men’s final, the Vusu Raiders triumphed over the Navy Albatross with a score of 20-10.
