Semi Solovani emerged as the standout player for Suva Grammar School (SGS) Under-18 rugby team, securing a thrilling 27-24 victory over Lelean Memorial School during the quarter-finals at Churchill Park. In a nail-biting finish, Solovani slotted a last-minute penalty after the scores were tied at 24-24, demonstrating remarkable composure under pressure.

Lelean had initially commanded the game, taking a strong lead by scoring three tries in the first half through Akapusi Nadavu, Asesela Volaukitoga, and Siliverio Ramasi. Their kicker, Eremasi Tune, successfully converted all three tries, giving Lelean a 21-17 advantage at halftime.

However, Suva Grammar remained competitive, with tries from Ratu Paula Vonolagi and Viliame Daurua, complemented by Solovani’s conversion and a penalty goal, keeping them in contention as they entered the second half.

The game took a turn in the second half as SGS increased their intensity. Aselemo Robanakadavu scored another try, which Solovani converted, bringing them within reach of victory. Lelean managed to add only a penalty through Tune before Solovani’s decisive kick sealed the win for the SGS.

Expressing gratitude for the victory, Solovani credited the team’s unity and teamwork as key factors in their success, saying, “I want to thank God for the win. Our message was teamwork and unity, and that’s what got us through.”
