The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDMO) has issued urgent warnings for residents in the southern parts of Viti Levu, as well as in Bua and Western Macuata provinces, due to forecasts predicting severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. The NDMO emphasizes the importance of vigilance, particularly as localized flooding is anticipated in low-lying and flood-prone areas, which may disrupt traffic and hinder visibility for both motorists and mariners.

In light of these warnings, the NDMO strongly advises motorists and commuters to prioritize their safety by avoiding unnecessary travel in the affected regions. Parents are also encouraged to closely supervise their children and keep them away from potentially hazardous flood-prone zones to ensure their safety.

Similar warnings have also been issued in the past concerning other regions, such as the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups. Past advisories highlighted the recurring nature of flooding in vulnerable communities and the importance of preparedness during adverse weather conditions. The NDMO continues to work closely with the Fiji Meteorological Service to monitor the situation and provide timely updates.

This current situation serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of nature, yet it also illustrates the resilience and sense of community that often emerge during challenging weather events. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and adhere to safety measures, which will help them navigate through these adverse conditions effectively. By coming together and supporting one another, communities can foster a hopeful spirit that can mitigate the impacts of such natural occurrences.
