The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDMO) has issued a crucial alert advising the public, particularly in the Southern regions of Viti Levu alongside the Bua and Western Macuata provinces, to remain vigilant due to forecasts of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. The potential for localized flooding in flood-prone areas, minor roads, and low-lying crossings poses a significant risk, leading to possible traffic disruptions and diminished visibility for motorists and mariners.

In light of these warnings, the NDMO is strongly urging individuals to prioritize their safety by avoiding unnecessary travel within the affected areas. Parents are also reminded to keep their children safe by avoiding flood-prone zones and ensuring that they are supervised to prevent any accidents.

This warning follows similar advisories previously issued by the NDMO for other regions of Fiji, including the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, which have highlighted the ongoing unpredictability of weather patterns in the area. In collaboration with the Fiji Meteorological Service, the NDMO is diligently monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates as necessary.

It’s crucial during such challenging weather conditions for communities to come together, support one another, and remain informed. By taking proactive measures and heeding official warnings, residents can effectively navigate these adverse circumstances, demonstrating resilience in the face of nature’s challenges. Optimistically, this heightened awareness can foster a sense of community and preparedness that enhances safety for all.
