Weather Update

Attention, residents and visitors of Fiji! Buckle up because the weather ride is about to get bumpy. A STRONG WIND WARNING is still buzzing for Kadavu and those smaller islands nearby, while the Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups get a reprieve—phew!

Now, let’s talk about rain. Mother Nature is feeling generous and has decided to bless the whole of Fiji with a HEAVY RAIN WARNING. Break out those umbrellas, folks—the downpour is on the way!

Here’s the scoop on Tropical Cyclone Seru (Category 2), who’s currently chilling out southwest of Fiji but is moving southeast like it has somewhere important to be. In its wake, it’s leaving a lovely trough of pressure, whispering sweet nothings of cloud and rain all over the region and sending some north to northeast winds our way.

Now, here’s what to expect as we approach midnight on Thursday for the Fiji group:

For Kadavu and its little buddies: get ready for some fresh to strong north to northeast winds—think speeds up to 45 km/hr with gusts that will practically be shouting at 65 km/hr. Sounds like your beach barbeque plans might need a rethink!

Cloudy skies are your new ceiling, with showers making a guest appearance, especially in the afternoons and evenings—just when you thought it was safe to go outside. Isolated heavy downpours might just crash that party, too.

As for the rest of Fiji: expect similar cloudy vibes with sporadic afternoon or evening showers. And yes, thunderstorms might decide to drop by uninvited. Rain will become more of a regular feature starting tomorrow, so don’t forget your raincoat and galoshes.

Here’s the thrilling forecast for throughout Fiji:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Cloudy with sporadic afternoon or evening showers, leading to the occasional thunderstorm. Bring on the rain!

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: More of the same; expect cloud cover and those sneaky showers escalating to frequent rain tomorrow. Umbrella up!

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Also cloudy with showers, and they’ll be picking up pace. Looks like the sun is reconsidering its career options.

For Tavua/ Rakiraki: Cloudy skies joined by afternoon or evening thundershowers. Don’t leave your rain boots behind!

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Cloudy ambience with some showers—there’s a pattern forming here, folks! Rain will make its presence known from tomorrow.

For Labasa and Savusavu: Similar cloudy conditions, with showers growing less shy and becoming frequent.

As for our friends in Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: Afternoon or evening showers are in the cards and might even come with thunderstorms, as if the weather wanted an electrifying finish.

And let’s not forget Rotuma, where a moist northeasterly wind is hanging out, bringing some cloudy periods and a few showers.

In summary, get ready for the wet and wild—a weekend forecast filled with occasional rain, heavy at times, and some thrilling thunderstorms over most places! So, if you don’t want to be caught in the rain, you might want to plan a movie marathon indoors. Stay safe and dry, Fiji!
