Weather Alert!
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 3:30pm, Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Hold onto your hats, folks! A STRONG WIND WARNING is in effect for our lovely residents of Western and Southern Viti Levu, Yasawa, Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, nearby smaller islands, Lau, and Lomaiviti. Just think of it as Mother Nature’s version of a hairdryer—only much stronger!
And don’t forget about the HEAVY RAIN WARNING currently drenching the western, northern, and interior regions of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, and Kadavu, along with those adorable nearby islands and the Lau and Lomaiviti Groups. Basically, if you’re planning on staying dry, you might want to reconsider that!
So, what’s shaking in the weather department? An active trough of low pressure is spinning over us like a DJ at a rain dance party, spreading clouds and rain across the Fiji group and expected to make its way eastward until Tuesday.
Here’s the rundown until midnight:
If you’re in Western and Northern Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti—a lovely mix of strong Northwest winds gusting up to 55km/hr. It’s not quite a hurricane party, but it’s certainly rough seas out there!
Expect rain that’s not just casual but heavy at times, accompanied by the occasional show-off thunderstorm. If you’re in the Greater Nadi area, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Vatukoula, or Rakiraki, be prepared for some localized heavy downpours that might just try to turn your living room into a swimming pool.
The rest of the Fiji group? Get ready for some rain, sprinkled with a few thunderstorms. It’s like Mother Nature decided to add a little variety to the forecast!
Looking towards Tuesday, brace yourselves—occasional heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms will continue to keep things exciting over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby islands.
For our beloved cities:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rain and a few surprises from thunderstorms expected, especially in the afternoons.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Those strong winds return, making for a thrilling ride through the day!
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: It’s going to get stormy, so hang on to those umbrellas, folks!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Rain and more rain, along with thunderstorms ready to make an appearance.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: A reprise of those strong winds and occasional rain, just in case you forgot what last week was like.
– Labasa and Savusavu: Brace yourselves for the downpours—don’t worry, the water will eventually go down!
– Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: Strong winds and rain keep coming your way as well!
And for the island of Rotuma: think of it as the calm before the storm—just a little bit of rain and a pleasant breeze for now.
So grab those raincoats and get ready for a wild ride with the weather, folks! The forecast looks like it’s got all the drama you could ask for—just don’t forget to bring your sense of humor along for the splashes!
