The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDMO) is urging residents in the Southern parts of Viti Levu, as well as in the Bua and Western Macuata provinces, to remain vigilant as warnings for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall have been issued. The potential for localized flooding is high, particularly in areas known to be flood-prone, which may disrupt traffic and hinder visibility for both motorists and mariners.

In light of this weather situation, the NDMO advises individuals to prioritize their safety by avoiding unnecessary travel in the affected regions. This precaution aligns with past advisories from the NDMO regarding significant weather events, where similar warnings were issued for areas including the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and the Southern Lau group. The NDMO has emphasized the importance of public safety and the need for proactive measures, including seeking shelter in designated evacuation centers if conditions worsen.

Moreover, parents are encouraged to keep their children safely away from any flooded areas and ensure supervision during this period. The NDMO continues to collaborate with the Fiji Meteorological Service to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates.

In essence, this serves as a reminder of nature’s unpredictability while also highlighting the resilience and community spirit that often emerge during challenging weather conditions. By staying informed and prepared, residents can navigate these adverse circumstances more effectively.
