Weather Bulletin
Good morning, Fiji!
Published by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in the early hours of Sunday, the 13th of April 2025, this forecast will have you trading your sunscreen for an umbrella (or maybe even a boat, depending on where you are).
Here’s the scoop: A lazy trough of low pressure has decided to camp out just north of Fiji, bringing along plenty of clouds and showers—much like that one uncle who overstayed his welcome at the family BBQ. This delightful front will enhance the northeasterly winds across the group, which means you’ll need to hold onto your hats, unless you want them to be blown away to Papua New Guinea!
As for the forecast today, expect a reasonable amount of rain with a side of thunderstorms—perfect for those who have always dreamed of starring in their own live weather report. The heaviest showers will drench the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu (yes, we’re looking at you, Coastal Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and all the other well-known locations that take pleasure in being soaked). The Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, Eastern and interior parts of Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and even some tiny surrounding islands are also in for a watery treat.
Now, if you’re elsewhere—don’t think you’re off the hook! A few clouds will be having a party with some showers, and expect uninvited afternoon or evening thunderstorms that might really know how to make an entrance! Localized heavy falls may create quite the splash, particularly in low-lying areas, so keep your galoshes handy.
We’ll have moderate to fresh northeasterly winds gusting through—ideal for kite flying if you’re feeling adventurous but possibly bad news for sun hats. Seas are moderate to rough, so think twice before you channel your inner captain.
Looking at Monday: Spoiler alert! We’ll continue to see occasional showers accompanied by the infamous isolated thunderstorm and heavy falls over many of the same regions. Repeat after me: “Bring on the rain, but leave the flash floods out!”
Let’s break it down region by region:
– **For Navua, Suva, and Nausori:** Get ready for dance partner showers and thunderstorms that will have heavy falls dancing along with them.
– **If you’re in Sigatoka/Coral Coast:** Cloudy skies will serve up some showers, and don’t be surprised if an afternoon storm crashes the party with heavy falls.
– **Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba:** It’s all about those cloudy periods with showers and the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm throwing down some heavy rain.
– **Tavua and Rakiraki:** Expect your cloudy counterparts to join in for showers and possibly some of that dramatic thunderstorm flair!
– **In Natadradave and Korovou:** Occasional showers with the same thunderstorm highlights rolling through.
– **Yasawa and Mamanuca:** More clouds and showers with a promise of thunderstorms later in the day.
– **Labasa:** Clouds will blanket you too, with potential heavy showers and thunderstorms hovering nearby.
– **Savusavu, Lau/Lomaiviti, and Kadavu:** Looks like it’s going to be a show of occasional showers and thunderstorms!
– **And over on Rotuma:** A slow-moving trough means plenty of occasional rain with heavy squalls trying to steal the spotlight.
So, whether you’re planning a lazy Sunday or gearing up for an action-packed Monday, just remember—be prepared for the wet! It appears that Fiji may have a new motto: “When it rains, it pours… but at least it’s not boring!” Stay safe and enjoy the show!
