Weather Report

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks, because a HEAVY RAIN WARNING is now in effect for the entire Fiji group! That’s right, it’s time to channel your inner ducks and get ready for some serious splashing. For those looking for extra details, don’t forget to check out the Special Weather Bulletin at: https://www.met.gov.fj/index.php?page=warn1#20014.txt (just don’t forget to return to the puddles afterward).

So, what’s happening today? An active trough of low pressure has decided to throw a stormy party over Fiji, and let’s just say, it’s a wet one! We’ve got a strong northerly wind flow blowing in to join the fun as well.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow: Expect rain in generous doses, possibly heavy enough to make you think about investing in a boat. The good news? Well, some thunderstorms will be making appearances over Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands. Keep your eyes peeled, because rain is anticipated to ease into showers tomorrow from the west.

In other areas, a splash of occasional rain will be accompanied by a few friendly thunderstorms. And yes, more frequent rain is expected starting tomorrow—like that friend who just refuses to leave the party early!

Localised heavy rain could lead to some flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas. So if you thought you had a river view, make sure it’s not your backyard that’s turning into a water feature! Moderate to fresh northerly winds will whip up a bit of excitement on the seas, which are expected to be moderate to rough—definitely not a day for novice sailors.

Now, let’s take a peek at Saturday’s forecast: It looks like rain, and more rain! Expect heavy downpours and some charming thunderstorms especially in the Northern Division, interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and surrounding areas. Elsewhere, just a sprinkle of showers and a few isolated thunderstorms are ready to stop by and say hello.

Specific area forecasts are as follows:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: You guessed it—periods of rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The rain has RSVP’d and will be heavy at times, with a hope of easing to showers tomorrow.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Expect the same waterworks—heavy rain with the potential for a few spectacular thunderstorms!

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Be on the lookout for heavy rain and thunderstorms, so it’s a good idea to have that raincoat nearby!

For Natadradave/Korovou and the Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Periods of heavy rain confirm their attendance at this weather affair, easing to showers later tomorrow.

For Labasa and Savusavu: Occasional showers with heavy bursts are like guests with loud laughs who won’t let up!

For Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: Rain and thunderstorms are the stars of this show, so prepare for a wet weekend.

For Rotuma: A moist east to northerly wind is blowing in, ready to dance with occasional showers and a bit of thunder.

And there you have it! Buckle your seatbelts (or waterproof jackets) as we brace ourselves for a deluge. Until next time, may your gutters stay clear and your spirits stay high!
