Weather Update
Issued at 10:45 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi.
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN WARNING has been declared for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and our lovely little islands nearby—and it seems like Mother Nature is feeling generous enough to share her rain with the whole of Fiji!
Currently, an active trough of low pressure is clouding up our skies and showering the nation with some serious moisture. Meanwhile, we’ve got a breezy northerly wind doing its thing across the land.
Tonight’s forecast for Fiji is a soggy one—expect periods of rain, heavy enough to make even the ducks reconsider their plans. Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and those nearby islands are likely to get the brunt of the action, with the possibility of thunderstorms stepping into the limelight. But don’t worry, later on, tomorrow the rain may calm down to a more manageable drizzle as it moves in from the west.
Elsewhere, prepare for occasional rain that sometimes forgets it’s just occasional and goes heavy at times, along with a few surprise thunderstorms to spice things up.
And just a heads-up: localized heavy rain might cause some waterworks in low-lying or flood-prone areas. So, if you see your neighbor’s lawn turning into a swimming pool, you’ll know why!
Expect moderate to fresh northerly winds to add a bit of flair, and the seas will be giving moderate to rough performances—great for the more adventurous soul looking for waves!
Looking ahead to Saturday, the rain continues to keep our soil well-watered and our spirits quizzically damp. The Northern Division, as well as the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and our beloved Lau and Lomaiviti groups, will see heavy rain at times and a few thunderstorms. Elsewhere, you might encounter some light showers with a sprinkle of isolated thunderstorms—because what’s a Saturday without a little drama?
In Navua, Suva, and Nausori, it’s a similar tale; heavy rain is the main feature, complemented by some unintended lightning shows.
In the upscale beach resort district of Sigatoka/Coral Coast, expect periods of rain, which will later ease to showers. Saturday’s outlook is for showers and a few thrill-seeking thunderstorms—perfect for anyone looking to bring their beachwear to an impromptu water park.
For Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, the forecast is much the same with heavy rain easing later. Tavua and Rakiraki, your weekend will be the same stage show.
Natadradave and Korovou have a similar script—heavy rains combined with a few dramatic thunderclaps followed by an easing trend.
The Yasawa and Mamanuca groups will continue the trend of rain and thunder, with breaks expected later on.
As for Labasa and Savusavu, heavy rain will join you too, just in case you thought you’d get a chance to dry off.
Over in Lau and Lomaiviti, prepare for showers that might play peek-a-boo throughout the weekend.
Kadavu, expect the usual—heavy rain and the occasional clap of thunder, perfect for your Saturday entertainment.
And lastly, Rotuma will be catching the moist winds along with occasional showers and thunderstorms, ensuring you don’t forget your raincoat.
So there you have it! Keep those raincoats handy and your spirits high, because at this rate, who needs a shower when the sky offers free ones? Stay safe and dry!
