Weather Update

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:00 PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025

Hold onto your umbrellas, Fiji! A heavy rain warning is in effect for Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and their smaller island buddies. And just to keep things interesting, there’s a heavy rain alert for the rest of our beautiful islands. So, it’s safe to say that Mother Nature has decided it’s time to let it pour!

What’s the scoop? An active trough of low pressure is causing all kinds of wetness over the Fiji group. Meanwhile, we’re experiencing a breezy northerly wind flow that might just help to dry things up… if only it could manage that.

Forecast up until midnight Thursday: Expect periods of rain that might as well be titled “rain, rain, come and stay.” Regions like Yasawa and Mamanuca will see some heavy rain and the occasional thunderstorm trying to steal the show. And no worries, the rest of Fiji won’t be left out; you’ll get your fair share of rain and thunder too!

Heads up for localised heavy downpours that may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas—definitely not the best time to channel your inner mermaid! Expect moderate to fresh northerly winds and seas that are just itching to be a little rough.

Looking ahead to Friday: More rainflation is on the way! Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and the nearby islands will continue to get in on the action with heavy rain and thunderstorms—just what we ordered! But fear not, as the rain is expected to waltz into light showers by the end of the day.

For all our friends in Navua, Suva, Nausori, and surrounding areas, prepare for more periods of rain, heavy at times, with a side of thunder! Friday will be a repeat—rainy but slightly more relaxed by the evening.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast, and Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: it’s the same theme—occasional heavy rain and rumbling thunderstorms. Think of it as nature’s way of providing background music!

Tavua/Rakiraki, Natadradave/Korovou, Yasawa/Mamanuca group: you guessed it! Prepare for your planned aquatic adventures—rain and thunderstorms in the lineup.

In Labasa and Savusavu: it’s occasional heavy rain and some thrilling thunderstorms. Before you know it, those showers will ease up—promise!

Last but not least, for Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu, occasional rain with some thunder is on the schedule. It’s like a free ticket to an outdoor water park, minus the fun slides!

And for the cherry on top, Rotuma: a delightful mix of showers and thunderstorms, making sure your days stay interesting. Just remember, no swimming in the streets!

So don’t forget to grab those umbrellas, and maybe a boat or two, as we weather this storm together! Stay safe, Fiji!
