Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is currently in effect for the eastern half of Viti Levu, including our beloved Serua/Namosi, Navua, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Cakaudrove, and good ol’ southern Bua. If you’re on Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, or nearby islands, get ready for a bit of aquatic excitement too!

So, what’s going on? Well, it seems we have a rather laid-back trough of low pressure taking a leisurely vacation over the eastern parts of Fiji. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s another one hanging around just southwest of us, like an uninvited guest at a party. Expect plenty of cloud cover and showers aiming to be the main event for the next few days.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Prepare for a drizzle party – we’re talking occasional rain, heavy at times, and a couple of thunderous guests crashing in for Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and the eastern half of Viti Levu (that’s everyone from Serua/Namosi through Navua, Nausori, and beyond). Cakaudrove and southern Bua won’t be left out either.

Elsewhere? A fair-weather mix, but expect some sneaky afternoon or evening showers to liven things up. And, for our friends over Western Viti Levu and Southwest Vanua Levu, thunderstorm action with heavy downpours could make your afternoon quite soggy.

Heads up! Localized heavy falls might lead to flash flooding in those low-lying areas, so make sure your rubber duckies are handy!

Easterly winds will moderate the mood, though they may gust during those thrilling thunderstorms. The seas? Well, they’ll be moderate too, just enough for a boat ride if you’re brave.

Now for the Sunday sneak peek: More of the same – occasional rain and a few thunderstorms hanging out over Lau, Lomaiviti, and the eastern Viti Levu crew. It’s like a rainy reunion party, which may ease to lighter showers later in the day. Expect the usual afternoon or evening showers and thunder to crash the party elsewhere, with localized downpours designed to make a splash.

Here are some local forecasts to keep your weekend dry or soggy, depending on where you are:

Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional rain and thunderstorms will be dropping in.
Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Fine weather but expect some late showers and thunder.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Same old tune – fine weather with some possible afternoon fun and games (a.k.a. showers and thunderstorms).
Tavua / Rakiraki: Occasional rain and thunder might appear to keep things interesting, with fine weather elsewhere.
Yasawa / Mamanuca group: Keeping it mostly fine, but don’t be surprised by a shower or two.
Labasa: Cloudy with a hint of rain and thunder, just to keep you on your toes.
Savusavu: Occasional rain and thunderstorms will keep things lively.
Kadavu: Similar to others, expect occasional rain and some thunder to announce their presence.
Rotuma: An isolated case of occasional showers and thunderstorms, as easterly winds continue their delightful breeze.

Outlook for Sunday: Cloudy periods with a few showers and the occasional thunderous party crasher!

Stay safe and dry out there!
