Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi
Issued on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025 at 5:30 AM

Attention, Fiji! It’s raining cats and dogs out there, and the forecast shows no sign of them stopping anytime soon. We’ve got a HEAVY RAIN ALERT in place for the entire region of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and those charming little islands nearby, as well as Lau, Lomaiviti, Yasawa, and Mamanuca Groups. If you’ve got plans to wander outside, you may want to grab a pair of flippers instead!

But hold onto your hats because there’s also a STRONG WIND WARNING for land areas of Kadavu and its surrounding little buddies, the Southern Lau Group, and the Moala Group. It’s going to be a windy day, which could mean a lot of excitement – or an unexpected game of “chase the hat.”

Why is all this happening, you ask? Simple! A lazy trough of low pressure has decided to camp over our beautiful islands, bringing along its pals, clouds and rain. Expect breezy northwesterly winds clocking in at average speeds of 45 km/hr and gusts that could reach 55 km/hr. Hold onto your cocktails!

Forecast until midnight:
For Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Southern Lau and Moala Group:
Brace yourself for occasional rain (and we mean heavy at times), mixed with some thunderstorm action! Rain will start giving us a break from the west later tonight. It’s going to be cool, so keep a cozy blanket nearby!

For the rest of Fiji:
Expect moderate to fresh northwest to southwest winds, which can get a bit frisky, particularly during those surprise thunderstorms. Rain will persist as we make our way through the day, so bright umbrellas are back on the packing list.

For the different regions, here’s the scoop:
– **Navua / Suva / Nausori**: A thrilling combo of occasional heavy rain and rumbling thunderstorms. Rain makes a smooth exit from the west later in the night. Min: 22, Max: 27.
– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: Same rainy entourage with an occasional thunder drum. Rain? Yup, easing…from the west. Min: 23, Max: 28.
– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Guess what? Rain and thunder! But finicky rain will ease off later. Min: 19, Max: 28.
– **Tavua/Rakiraki**: The atmosphere is bringing some downpours, but rest assured, rain will start to yield later in the evening. Min: 22, Max: 29.
– **Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni**: Cloudy with showers and a few dramatic thunderstorms happening. Let’s hope for some night-time easing! Min: 22, Max: 27.
– **Yasawa/Mamanuca Group and Kadavu**: You guessed it – rain, thunder, and gusty winds strutting around. Min: 22, Max: 27.

**And for our friends in Rotuma**: The weather party is in full swing with some light showers and perhaps a freelance thunderstorm. Bring out your floaties; the sea might be a bit rough! Min: 25, Max: 29.

Tomorrow’s Outlook:
As we inch closer to Thursday, expect cloudy periods and showers mostly over the Northern Division and Northern Lau Group. Those showers will be packing their bags by the end of the day. The more southern parts, including Navua, Suva, and Nausori will enjoy predominantly fine weather with just a light splash of brief showers.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for calmer, sunnier days ahead, and remember to dance in the rain – just, try to avoid any puddles that might be hiding their depths! Stay safe and dry, everyone!
