Updated Weather Bulletin
Well folks, it looks like Mother Nature decided to throw a wild wind and rain party across Fiji and you’re all invited!
A STRONG WIND WARNING is officially in effect for southern parts of Vanua Levu and still out here in the western and southern nooks of Viti Levu, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups. It’s also blowing in the winds for Kadavu, the nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups – so buckle up, it’s going to be breezy!
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any wilder, we’ve got a HEAVY RAIN WARNING still soaking the western, northern, and interior pockets of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, along with our friends in the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and beyond. The rest of the Fiji group is under heavy rain alert, so expect puddles larger than your coffee cup.
SITUATION: An active trough of low pressure is giving us more cloud, rain, and some rather enthusiastic northwest winds, slowly making its way through the country. Just a classic day in Fiji!
Forecast until midnight tomorrow across the Fiji group:
For the southern regions of Vanua Levu, western and southern Viti Levu, Kadavu and the islands, plus the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups: Hold onto your hats! We’ve got strong northwest winds blowing at 37 to 46 km/hr, with gusts that might just send your flip-flops flying up to 55 km/hr! Seas are going to be a bit rough too, so you might want to skip the surfing today.
In other regions, expect moderate to fresh northwest winds, but don’t get comfortable – they might also feel a bit fresh and breezy!
Now onto the juicy bit: rain! Prepare for occasional showers, heavy at times, possibly accompanied by a few thunder somewhere in the Greater Nadi Area-Lautoka-Ba-Tavua-Vatukoula-Rakiraki, as well as interior areas like Ba and Navosa, and Naitasiri. Oh, and don’t forget our friends in Bua and Macuata province, Kadavu, and the little islands – everyone gets a taste!
Localised heavy downpours may lead to some flash flooding in low-lying areas. So if you see a rubber ducky floating by, it’s just a friendly reminder to watch your step. Rain is expected to ease from the west later today, and then as if on cue, gradually move east by Tuesday.
As for the other regions of the Fiji group: think occasional rain with some thunderstorms. And yes, isolated heavy falls will join the fun, especially in the afternoon or evening. With the rain playing peek-a-boo, don’t forget those umbrellas!
Outlook for Tuesday: More of the same – occasional heavy rain and those cheeky thunderstorms are still in attendance.
Let’s break it down for the key areas:
– For Navua/Suva/ Nausori: Just a sprinkle, or you know, occasional rain with a side of thunderstorms. Expect showers to be the new normal by tomorrow.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Strong winds, rain, and a little thunder, perfect for a dramatic movie scene!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: A delightful mix of rain, heavy at times, and the glamorous thunder!
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Strong winds again – like an uninvited guest at the party – but rain with that charming thunder, coming soon!
– Labasa/Savusavu: Here comes the rain again, heavy in the afternoons and evenings.
And let’s not forget Rotuma, where subtler weather prevails; just some brief showers and moderate northerly winds, making it the calm before the storm — literally!
So there you have it folks! Plan your adventures accordingly, keep those umbrellas close, and if the wind gets too strong, perhaps have a cozy day in with a cup of hot cocoa!
