Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 18th February 2025
Good news, everyone! The mighty heavy rain alert for the western half of Viti Levu, Yasawa, and the Mamanuca group has been lifted, so you can put away your raincoats and break out the beach towels—just kidding, not just yet!
A heavy rain watch remains for the eastern half of Viti Levu and beyond—basically, the party is still on for the rest of Fiji, including Vanua Levu, Kadavu, and those charming little islands nearby. Keep your waders handy!
For our thrill-seeking friends in low-lying areas of western Viti Levu (yes, we see you, Sigatoka to Rakiraki) and parts of Vanua Levu, stay alert for potential flash floods—better keep a watchful eye on those small streams.
The weather is playing hide-and-seek today, with a weak trough of low pressure hanging around like an uninvited guest. It’s gradually planning its exit, set to drift north by Thursday—let’s hope it takes the rain with it! Meanwhile, brace yourselves for some moist southeast to southwest winds, as if Fijian skies decided to take a shower.
Here’s what to expect by midnight—you’re going to want an umbrella handy:
– Occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms brewing over Vanua Levu and northern Lau—Mother Nature is clearly feeling dramatic.
– Kadavu, the rest of Lau, the Lomaiviti group, and some of Viti Levu will be seeing some occasional showers with the possibility of localized heavy falls—perfect weather for rainy day activities!
– The rest of our beloved Fiji will bear partly cloudy skies with some cheeky afternoon or evening showers and the odd thunderstorm.
– Keep in mind, localized heavy falls might bring some flash floods, so take care out there!
On to the Thursday forecast—here’s what’s on the weather menu:
– Expect some more rain, heavy at times, with a sprinkle of thunderstorms over Vanua Levu. Thank goodness it’s expected to ease up a bit later in the day.
– The rest of the islands will have cloudy periods, with occasional showers and potential thunderstorms too—the clouds seem to be in a showy mood!
– For Navua, Suva, and Nausori: it’s back to the shower scene with isolated thunderstorms. Think of it more as nature’s way of giving us an impromptu shower performance.
– Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba can expect partly cloudy skies and those infamous afternoon showers—a weather pattern that has become a local tradition at this point!
– For our friends across the Yasawa/Mamanuca group, expect the usual—partly cloudy with evening showers and the soothing sound of distant thunder.
– Labasa and Savusavu will experience occasional rain and a few thunderstorms too, with possibilities of easing to some showers later.
And Rotuma? Buckle up as it’s getting windy, with a strong wind warning in effect! The ocean is in for a wild ride, so plan accordingly if you’re thinking of taking a sail.
So there you have it! Don’t forget your umbrellas, practice your rain dance just in case, and enjoy the upcoming dramatic weather—because sometimes, a little rain is just what we need to break the monotony!
