Weather Alert:

Good morning, weather enthusiasts! It’s Thursday, February 20th, 2025, and we’ve got some news that might just rain on your parade—literally! A heavy rain alert is in full swing for the interior and eastern halves of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu, and the charming smaller islands of Lau and Lomaiviti Group. So, if you were hoping to stay dry today, it looks like you’ll have to rethink those plans!

To keep you afloat—pun intended—remember there’s a flash flood alert for those small streams and low-lying areas within the same regions in Viti Levu. Specifically, from Korolevu to Suva and other delightful spots like Rakiraki. If you’re in the vicinity, treat those puddles with respect; they might just be more than shallow pools!

What’s brewing is a slow-moving trough of low pressure—that’s meteorological talk for “the clouds are here to party.” Expect occasional rain, with heavy downpours raising the general water level significantly. Thunderstorms might join, but we all know they tend to crash the party uninvited.

Looking at the forecast for today, the Northern Division, Yasawa, and Mamanuca group will likely see some heavy rain and a few thunder claps, while those in the eastern and interior areas of Viti Levu can expect cloudy spells with some showers—okay, maybe a little more than just “some.” If you’re somewhere that isn’t the eastern side or the interior, count yourself as lucky with only the occasional afternoon sprinkle.

And don’t forget—the seas are feeling a bit ruffled, with moderate winds blowing from the southeast to southwest.

Looking ahead to Friday: Expect cloudy skies with isolated heavy falls that could surprise you, just like that one friend who shows up after you’ve planned a cozy night in. So be prepared!

For various regions:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Cloudy with showers—grab an umbrella!
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Fine, but with some possible afternoon showers—keep your raincoat handy just in case!
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Cloudy and showery, watch your step!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Mostly fine, just like your chances of dodging wild storms—sort of.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Heavy rain at times; it’ll ease up today.
– Labasa: Same as above, with some drama from thunderstorms.
– Savusavu: Heavy rain lifting to showers—think of it as a gentle tease.
– Lau/Lomaiviti/Kadavu: Expect cloudy weather with sporadic showers.

For our friends in Rotuma: Hang onto your hats! A strong wind warning is in effect with northwesterly gusts causing a bit of a ruckus. So, if you were planning on taking your boat out, perhaps reconsider and enjoy the view from land instead.

Keep your feet dry, your umbrellas ready, and your spirits up, because yes, it’s raining on the islands, but that’s just nature’s way of keeping things interesting!
