Weather Alert

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 11th February 2025

Summary: There’s a rather moody trough of low pressure hanging out over southern Fiji, bringing a side of showers with a chance of a few thunderstorms. The north to northeast winds have decided to join the fun, gently nudging us all along.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Expect a sprinkling of occasional showers with some areas experiencing isolated heavy downpours and an enthusiastic thunderstorm over Kadavu, Moala group, and Southern Lau. Good news: things are expected to ease up by tomorrow. The rest of Viti Levu, especially the northern parts (from Ba to Rakiraki and the scenic Tailevu), Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and a few interiors like Ba & Ra, Namuka-Dogotuki, and the charming Saqani, Natewa, and Tunuloa, will see cloudy periods, scattered showers, and some surprise heavy falls in the afternoons or evenings. Don’t forget your umbrella in case those localized heavy showers lead to a surprise flash flood in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Winds are moderate and blowing from the north to northeast but might decide to switch things up to northwest tomorrow. Seas will be moderate, so don’t go diving into any wild waves just yet.

Outlook for Thursday: More clouds are on the horizon alongside isolated heavy falls, especially over the interior and western parts of the larger islands. Thunderstorms are likely to join the afternoon or evening lineup, bringing some hefty rain later in the day. And yes, local heavy falls could bring flash flooding in those pesky low-lying areas again. Expect moderate northwest winds and seas that play nice.

Area-specific outlook:

For Navua/Suva/Nausori: A good mix of fine weather will be rudely interrupted by thunderstorms and heavy falls this afternoon or evening, so make sure your sandals are waterproof!

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Cloudy periods will grace us tonight, along with a chance of those cheeky thunderstorms tomorrow. Keep your raincoat close!

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Showers and a few rumbles of thunder will dominate the day, but fear not, sunshine will peek through later.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Cloudy with showers and the potential of thunderstorm shenanigans ahead. Don’t let those heavy falls catch you off guard!

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Cloudy periods and some showers will meet you; just beware of afternoon or evening heavy falls—they can be quite the pranksters!

For Labasa: You might think it’ll be fine, but those thunderstorms are lurking for a surprise appearance in the afternoon!

For Savusavu: A lovely mix of sunny skies and looming thunderstorms. Just keep your eyes peeled for heavy falls!

For Lau/Lomaiviti: The occasional shower will bring a refreshing twist to your day; thunderstorms might just pop in too—how exciting!

For Kadavu: Expect a rollercoaster ride of occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms, tapering off to some light sprinkles by tomorrow.

For Rotuma: A slow-moving trough is chillin’ over Rotuma, bringing along cloudy periods, showers, and a sprinkle of possible thunderstorms.

Stay safe and dry, Fiji! And remember, an umbrella is your best friend on days like this!
