Severe Weather Alert: Fiji Faces Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Risks

The Fiji Meteorological Services has released a special weather bulletin alerting residents about heavy rainfall expected in the Central and Eastern divisions, as well as in Southern Bua and Cakaudrove province. This weather is attributed to a slow-moving trough of low pressure affecting the Fiji region.

The forecast indicates that rain and related cloud cover will persist until Thursday. Additionally, a shallow Tropical Disturbance (TDO3F) is currently moving southeast away from Fiji.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has reported instances of flash flooding in certain areas of the Central Division, advising the public to refrain from crossing or swimming in flooded zones, especially where water levels exceed knee height. Motorists are also warned to drive cautiously due to potential traffic disruptions caused by the weather conditions.

To keep the public informed about road conditions, updates can be found on the Fiji Roads Authority’s Facebook page or their Viber community. For ongoing weather alerts, the NDRMO encourages everyone to stay tuned to the official updates from the Fiji Meteorological Services, which provides weather advisories via their website and social media platforms.

As the NDRMO and FMS continue to monitor the situation, it’s vital for residents to remain proactive and informed during this period of adverse weather.

This serves as a reminder of the importance of heeding weather warnings and staying safe during such events, fostering community awareness and resilience in the face of natural challenges.
