Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A lazy trough of low pressure is hanging out over the southern parts of our beautiful country, bringing along its entourage of clouds and showers that are set to crash some parties in the southern and eastern regions over the next few days.

Forecast until midnight Friday for the enchanting Fiji group:
Expect occasional showers and the occasional thunderstorm to make things a little electrifying, particularly over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, and their nearby buddies like southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Kadavu, plus the charming Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Showers might just decide to kick it up a notch overnight. We’re talking severe thunderstorms and heavy rain rolling in to keep us company by the afternoon.

Everywhere else? Well, it’s looking fine, but don’t get too cozy; isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms might sneak in with a splash of heavy rain.

And just a friendly reminder: sustained heavy falls in certain areas could lead to some uninvited flash floods, particularly in those low-lying spots that tend to collect water like a sponge.

Winds will be moderate to fresh, blowing from the east to southeast, and may gust during those dramatic rain interludes. The seas? Moderate to rough, in case you were wondering.

The outlook for Saturday: More occasional showers, some thunder, and a chance for those isolated heavy downpours over the eastern half of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and our smaller island friends. Showers could ramp up to full-on rain by evening.

Afternoon or evening showers will be scattered everywhere else, and brace yourselves for more afternoon thunderstorms over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Flood-prone areas might be a bit wetter than usual — just something to keep an eye on.

Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty for specific locations:

For Navua/Suva/Nausori:
Expect a regular dose of showers and the excitement of occasional thunderstorms, with some hefty rains likely. Evenings should take you on a thrilling ride as showers morph into rain.

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba:
Enjoy the fine weather, but be warned—those isolated afternoon or evening showers might want to join the fun with some thunder.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast:
The sun will shine generally, but don’t be surprised if afternoon or evening showers come calling, possibly bringing heavy downpours with them.

For Tavua/Rakiraki:
We’ll keep it fine for now, but that could change with isolated afternoon or evening showers and potential thunderstorms.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group:
Nothing but sunshine for the most part, aside from those sneaky afternoon or evening showers that bring their thunderous friends.

For Labasa:
Expect the sun to play nice, but afternoon or evening showers, along with thunderstorms, are on the horizon.

For Savusavu:
Showers and thunderstorms will be swooping in for a visit, but they could increase to rain for a grand finale in the evening.

For Lau/Lomaiviti:
Showers and thunderstorms will be frequent visitors, so keep those raincoats handy. Evening time could see those showers turn into rainfall.

For Kadavu:
Similar story—occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected, with a chance of rain ramping up into the night.

For Rotuma:
A soft drizzle of clouds and showers is on the menu, courtesy of that low-pressure area in your neck of the woods. Expect some moderate easterly winds and the chance of a few thunderstorms.

Outlook for Saturday for Rotuma: Cloudy with some showers and possible isolated thunderstorms.

So there you have it, folks! Keep your hats on and your umbrellas at the ready because Mother Nature seems to have a few surprises up her sleeve!
