Weather Alert

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2025

Good news, folks! The heavy rain warning for the entire Viti Levu is officially off the table—at least for now. That pesky low-pressure front is still hanging around like an uninvited guest at a party, but it seems to be moving at a leisurely pace, just like those decision-makers when it’s time to pick a restaurant.

So, what can you expect for the next 24 hours across the Fiji group? Here’s the scoop:

Prepare for a splash of occasional showers and the not-so-rare but still surprising isolated thunderstorms gracing the eastern half of Viti Levu. If you’re in the areas from Serua/Namosi through Navua to Suva, and extending to Nausori all the way up to Tailevu North (and let’s not forget the interior of Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra), you might want your umbrella handy. Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu, as well as those charming smaller islands nearby, are also scheduled for some rainy interruptions.

Now, let’s not ignore Cakaudrove and southern Bua, which will be enjoying some cloudy moments and the occasional shower. The rest of you? Well, it looks like a party—though don’t be surprised by a random afternoon shower or pleasant evening thunderstorm crashing the festivities.

Watch out Viti Levu and Vanua Levu! You’re in for some afternoon thunderstorms that might have a bit of flair, complete with heavy falls. Stay sharp; localised heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Moderate easterly winds and seas will keep things lively but not too wild as we cruise through the next few days.

Looking ahead to Friday: Prepare for more sporadic rain and a couple of friendly thunderstorms over Lau and Lomaiviti, as well as that chatty eastern quadrant of Viti Levu. Kadavu, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua will not escape unscathed—showers and thunderstorms will continue to pop up, especially as the afternoon rolls in.

Hey Navua, Suva, and Nausori, looks like tomorrow you’ll be dealing with the usual dose of showers and storms—all part of the charm of living in paradise!

For Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, expect mostly fine conditions but don’t put the umbrella too far away. The afternoon and evening may yield some unexpected drizzles and rumbles.

Tavua and Rakiraki should gear up for some showers alongside their thunderstorms, while Yasawa and Mamanuca will remain mostly fine but may face isolated afternoon drama in the form of showers and rumbles.

In Labasa, the weather is mostly cooperating—afternoon fireside chats might be interrupted by some sporadic showers and thunderstorms. Savusavu will be a bit cloudier with possible afternoon downpours, and for the young at heart in Lau and Lomaiviti, occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms continue to dance on your weekend plans.

Finally, Rotuma—you’ll be basking in cloudy periods and some showers, with a hint of thunder as we head into the weekend.

So get your best rain dance geared up or prepare for a cozy night in because this weather seems to have a mind of its own. Stay safe, and let’s hope those showers don’t turn into a full-blown performance!
