Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, at 3:23 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for heavy rainfall across the interior and southern parts of Viti Levu, including the areas from Sigatoka-Coral Coast, Serua-Namosi, Lami to Suva, and more. If you thought you could dodge the raindrops today, think again!
Here’s what you can expect in the coming hours: A delightful moist northeast wind is making its presence known, bringing along some steamy and sticky conditions to the mix. An incoming trough of low pressure is planning an uninvited visit from the west to stir up a “storm party” across the islands starting tomorrow.
Forecast until midnight for the Fiji group:
For Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Ra-Naitasiri, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove provinces, Kadavu, Taveuni, and our lovely neighboring islands:
Today: It’s a partly cloudy day with the hint of some brief showers. Hold onto your hats because afternoon or evening thunderstorms are on the way!
Tomorrow: Expect more clouds with some showers and a triumphant return of afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Watch out for isolated heavy falls that might make a splash in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
For the rest of Fiji:
Today: Generally, fine weather is on deck, but keep an eye out for some cheeky afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Tomorrow: A partly cloudy sky will accompany isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. And yes, you guessed it—those isolated heavy falls could outdo your best rain dance!
Moderate northeasterly winds are gently rocking those seas, which are moderate, but not too rough for your boat trip.
Outlook for Friday: Cloudy periods with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could be making headlines over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and other areas we’ve all come to love. Elsewhere, it will be partly cloudy with a sprinkle of afternoon or evening showers. Heavy falls are expected, which means those flood-prone spots might just get a bit of extra love from the rain gods!
