Weather Update: Get Ready for a Thunderous Show!
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Grab your umbrellas and maybe a life raft if you live in low-lying areas, because a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING is still sizzling for the northern part of Viti Levu (think Nadi to Rakiraki and all the way to Korovou) and the eastern half of Vanua Levu (that includes everywhere from Northern Bua through Labasa to Udu Point, plus all the smaller islands that are feeling adventurous!).
Also, if you’re near Vanua Levu, Taveuni, or those snazzy little islands nearby, or even in the central and northern Lau group, stay alert because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is drenching you with love.
The Situation Update: Our weather is like a slow-motion soap opera, with a low-pressure system barely moving over the southern and eastern parts of the group. Meanwhile, there’s another sneaky trough of cloud and rain moving toward us from the northeast, which is slowly plotting its course through the group from tonight until Saturday. So, brace yourselves for some overdramatic weather!
Forecast through midnight tomorrow for our lovely Fiji group:
– Expect intermittent showers with a sprinkle of thunderstorms and a chance of sudden, heavy downpours over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the smaller islands, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti. Things are expected to ramp up to more frequent rain and thunderstorms as the night goes on.
– Some showers and isolated thunderstorms are prepared to throw a heavy-hitting tantrum over Sigatoka-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nasinu, Yasawa, and the Mamanuca group, so keep your raincoat handy—who knows when it might be needed!
– Most of the remaining areas will be generally fine, but don’t get too cozy; prepare for afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms later tomorrow. The weather may play Wipeout with low-lying and flood-prone zones, so if you live near the water, pay attention and don’t forget your floaties!
Wind-wise, expect moderate west to southwest breezes, which may kick up fresh gusts. It could get a bit bumpy out there in the water, with moderately rough seas and a sprinkle of squalls to keep things interesting.
As for Friday’s forecast: We’re looking at an encore performance of occasional rain, heavy at times, complete with a lineup of thunderstorms across most regions. Be careful if you’re prone to floods; it sounds like the weather wants to rehearse for a splashy show!
Specifics for the regions:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Don’t forget your rain gear! Expect heavy falls tonight and frequent showers tomorrow. Min: 24, Max: 33.
– Natadradave/Korovou: More of the same. Grab those umbrellas! Min: 24, Max: 33.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Looks like rain and thunderstorms will steal the spotlight. Min: 24, Max: 33.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: A bit of a dry spell for now, but keep an eye out for late-afternoon showers. Min: 24, Max: 34.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: They’re planning a thunderous evening too. Min: 24, Max: 34.
– Labasa/Savusavu: Expect some heavy drama later tonight—potentially a splash zone! Min: 24, Max: 33.
– All you beautiful folks in Taveuni and Kadavu: that rain isn’t going anywhere soon. Min: 24, Max: 32.
– Rotuma: Just like everyone else, you’re getting in on the heavy rain alert with some gusty wind to boot. Min: 24, Max: 31.
Stay safe and dry out there, Fiji! Keep those umbrellas close and maybe a towel handy because things are about to get moody.
