Attention all weather enthusiasts and casual umbrella-toters!

The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has swung into action with a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall across parts of Viti Levu, including Sigatoka-Coral Coast, Serua-Namosi, Lami to Suva, interior Nadroga Navosa, Naitasiri, Bua, western Macuata, and western Cakaudrove. Grab your raincoats and batten down the hatches, folks!

Today, we’re blessed with a delightful moist northeast wind that’s decided to hang out with us, while a trouble-making trough of low pressure is sneaking up from the west. This mischievous system is expected to shower us with its presence starting tomorrow.

Forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow:

For our friends in Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Ra-Naitasiri, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove provinces, Kadavu, Taveuni, and the lovely Lau and Lomaiviti groups:
– Today: A bit of cloudiness with brief showers. Expect some afternoon or evening thunderstorms that just might pop up like uninvited guests.
– Tomorrow: Cloudy periods gracing us with some showers and, you guessed it, afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Beware of isolated heavy falls, which could lead to some flash flooding in low-lying areas.

For the rest of the gang in Fiji:
– Today: Mostly fine weather with a side of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
– Tomorrow: The clouds will return with isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rain could still drop by for a visit, especially in flood-prone areas.

As for the wind, it’s looking moderately breezy out there, and the seas are just moderate enough to stir up some waves but nothing too wild.

Here’s what’s in store for Friday:
– Expect a return of the clouds with showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, along with Kadavu and the smaller islands nearby. Elsewhere, just a touch of clouds accompanied by some afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
– Heavy falls are still on the guest list, so keep that in mind if you fancy a walkaround town!

Now, for a more localized forecast:
– In Navua, Suva, and Nausori: We’ll kick things off with partly cloudy skies today, followed by some thunderstorms in the afternoon. Tomorrow? More clouds and possibly some heavy rain.
– Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: A sunny day awaits, before the classic “afternoon shower and thunderstorm duo” swings in.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Thanks to some fine weather now, but be ready for those afternoon thunderstorms to crash the party.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: A combination of sun and occasional showers, with thunderstorm antics in the evening forecast.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Today’s fine weather will face some competition from thunderstorms come evening.

To our friends in Savusavu, Labasa, Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti: Keep an eye on those clouds and have your rain gear handy, because we’re expecting some thunderous excitement! And Rotuma, you’ll also join in the cloudy parade with some showers popping up here and there.

All aboard the storm express! Stay safe, and maybe catch up on those indoor hobbies, unless you fancy practicing your dance moves in the rain!
