Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Heavy Rainfall and Flood Risks Expected Across Fiji

Weather Update

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! The National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for our friends in Southern Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, so it’s time to prepare for some thunderous applause in the sky.

What’s causing all the ruckus? A lazy trough of low pressure is hanging out over the eastern parts, bringing along an entourage of clouds and showers that just love to crash parties. This party is expected to go on for the next few days, so you might want to stock up on snacks and rainy day movies.

Here’s what to expect until midnight tomorrow across the beautiful Fiji group:

You can expect occasional showers and a sprinkle of lightning over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Kadavu, and the charming nearby islands, not to mention Lau and Lomaiviti. In the evening, those showers may step up their game and turn into some serious rain.

For those in areas like Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, it’s all about fine weather aside from those pesky afternoon or evening showers. Just when you think it’s safe to put away your umbrella, those thunderstorms are planning a surprise appearance!

For our adventurers in Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, the same forecast applies. The sun might try its best, but those afternoon thunderstorm gatecrashers are inevitable.

If you’re in Tavua or Rakiraki, keep those rain jackets handy. Fine weather will be jealous of the afternoon and evening showers that are bound to appear.

Yasawa/Mamanuca group, you guessed it, expect the same charming unpredictability!

As for Labasa, expect a similar scene: fine weather trying its best but eventually yielding to those rebellious afternoon thunderstorms.

Savusavu will also see occasional showers and some thunderous drama later in the day, as will Lau and Lomaiviti.

Kadavu, stay alert for the occasional showers followed by the unpredictable moody thunderstorms licking their lips at evening time.

And Rotuma? Well, it’s like being in a relationship with a moody artist—expect cloud and shower drama, along with some isolated thunderstorms to keep things spicy.

So gear up, folks! Don’t forget your umbrellas, and perhaps a good book for when the weather tries to steal the show. Happy weather-watching!
