Weather Bulletin

Attention all weather enthusiasts and occasional couch potatoes! A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING has been issued, and it’s not just for the dramatic flair. Heavy rainfall is storming in for the INTERIOR, NORTHWESTERN, WESTERN and SOUTHWESTERN parts of Viti Levu, making it the perfect opportunity to test your umbrella’s durability (spoiler alert: it’s probably not up to the challenge).
Currently, we have a moist northeast wind flow, which sounds like the weather equivalent of a warm hug. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure is creeping in from the southwest, bringing along clouds and showers, as if they were RSVP’d guests who just couldn’t resist the party.
Forecasting the shenanigans through midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
For Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Ra-Naitasiri areas, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove provinces, Kadavu, Taveuni, and neighboring smaller islands, brace yourselves for cloudy periods with a mix of showers and maybe some early evening thunderstorms just to keep things spicy. Expect isolated heavy falls, because when it rains, it pours—and we mean that literally. Watch out for potential flash flooding in low-lying areas.
For the rest of Fiji: It’s a party of partly cloudy skies with isolated afternoon or evening showers and, surprise, thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls are expected, and yes, localised heavy falls might just sprout flash floods like unexpected pop quizzes in school.
And let’s not forget our personal sauna experience lately; hot and humid conditions are on the menu, with maximum temperatures sizzling between 33-35 degrees Celsius. So, remember to stay hydrated, or you might start resembling a melting ice cream cone.
Moderate east to northeast winds will be whispering through, with gusty conditions crashing the party in areas experiencing heavy falls and thunderstorms. The seas are moderate, so if you were hoping to surf the storm, maybe reconsider and stick to safer waters.
For Saturday’s sneak peek: Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms are expected over the Yasawa Group and parts of Viti Levu (think Ra, Rakiraki, Tailevu, and the Coral Coast).
In other words, it’s a mixed bag out there. There’ll be times when the sun peeks through, but don’t get too comfortable; keep that umbrella handy because isolated heavy falls are set to rain on everyone’s parade!
Best of luck to everyone braving the weather, and remember—no umbrella? Just dance in the rain!
