Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi

Issued at 7:30pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2026

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect, particularly for the interior and southern parts of Viti Levu—think Korolevu, Interior Ba, Interior Nadroga-Navosa, and more. And let’s not forget our friends over in southeastern Vanua Levu. If you live in these areas, it’s time to batten down the hatches; heavy rain is on the way, and we’re not talking about a sprinkle!

For the Fijian group, the forecast through midnight tomorrow suggests a delightful mix of cloudiness and showers in places like Labasa and the lovely layers of the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. On the bright side, Natadola, Nadi, Lautoka, and their buddies will mostly be fine, with a few brief showers to keep things interesting. And don’t be surprised if those thunderstorms decide to crash the party in the afternoon or evening—heavy rainfall is expected, which might turn into “flash flooding” in all the low-lying party zones.

As for the winds, they’ll be moderate and coming from the west to southwest, which is basically the weather equivalent of a gentle nudge. The seas will be moderate too, so no wild sailing adventures just yet!

Looking ahead to Friday, expect more of the same—cloudy with showers over places like Sigatoka, Lautoka, and more. If you see that flash of lightning, don’t forget to duck! The heavy downpours might spoil your plans—so bring an umbrella, and maybe a paddle!

Here’s the scoop for specific areas:

For Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect mainly fine conditions with just a hint of afternoon or evening showers. High of 32. Just don’t forget: thunderstorms are lurking in the shadows!

For Natadradave/Korovou: Mainly fine but with a stormy twist in the afternoon or evening. High of 32—perfect for those who like a dramatic weather shift!

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Mostly fine weather, with some surprise showers in the evening. High of 32, ensuring a fine day… until it isn’t!

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Relatively fine with some brief showers and the threat of thunderstorms later. High of 33—ideal for sunbathing… until Mother Nature decides otherwise!

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Mainly fine, adding in storms for drama! High of 33, but pack that raincoat just in case!

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Expect brief showers, but storms could crash your tropical party! High of 31—don’t forget to swim just before the clouds show up!

For Labasa: Some clouds to hang with, alongside the potential for thunderstorms. High of 32—perfect for weather fence-sitters!

For Savusavu: Expect afternoon showers and thunder with a high of 32. Bring your beach towel and a backup for the rain!

For the rest of our beautiful islands, expect cloudy periods and occasional showers. Just like life out here, it’s unpredictable but always delightful!

Stay safe, have fun, and keep your boots handy just in case we have an unwarranted flood bash!
