Weather Update
Issued by your friendly neighborhood National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, at 3:30 PM on Thursday, April 3, 2025
Grab your umbrellas and maybe a kayak because it’s about to get wet out there! A heavy rain warning has been declared for the interior, western, and northern parts of Viti Levu (yes, from Momi-Nadi to Ba/Tavua and all the way into the heart of Ba/Nadroga/Navosa), as well as Vanua Levu. Treat yourself to a little splash fun, but just be careful not to float away!
Now, if you thought rain was reserved for certain regions, you might want to rethink your travel plans; a heavy rain alert is also in effect for the eastern half of Viti Levu, which includes hotspots like Serua/Namosi, Navua, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, RA, and beyond. Rain is clearly feeling sociable today!
The situation is simple: a pesky trough of low pressure has decided to find a cozy spot over Fiji, bringing along a side dish of cloud and rain. This weather system appears to be in no rush to move on, so expect it to hang around until tomorrow, drifting northward like a lazy river.
Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji islands: Expect occasional rain—with a chance of it being heavy enough to bathe an elephant—along with a few thunderstorms making guest appearances. Specifically, the eastern half of Viti Levu will experience rain from Serua-Namosi, through Suva to Tailevu north, including Tailevu’s interior and Naitasiri (really, it’s a rain party!).
The western side will be cloudy with brief showers. But watch out for those afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms—think of them as nature’s version of surprise parties!
Due to the localized heavy falls, flash flooding is a possibility for low-lying and flood-prone areas, so keep an eye on your rubber duckies! Moderate to fresh easterly winds will be blowing through, partnered with moderate to rough seas—so hold onto your hats if you’re out on the water!
Now, looking ahead to Saturday: Cloudy periods with some showers will make an appearance across Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Lau, and the charming Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and their nearby tiny islands. The rest of you can expect fine weather, just a sprinkle of brief afternoon and evening showers, with some possible thunderstorms—because why not?
Here’s a quick rundown for some selected regions:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rain making frequent stops, mixing in some thunder.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Cloudy with brief showers, and sure enough, those thunderstorms will be rolling in for afternoon and evening.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Enjoy the cloud cover with some quick showers and those thunderous guests arriving in the evening.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Rain often enough to open a water park, along with brief showers and thunder.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Cloudy with showers and thunder that could make any magician envious.
– Labasa & Savusavu: Have your raincoats ready—heavy rain is back for frequent visits.
– Lau/Lomaiviti: Expect occasional rain at your doorstep, especially over central and northern areas.
– Kadavu: A mix of clouds and afternoon showers, with possible thunder drama in the evening.
And for our friends in Rotuma, enjoy the easterly winds while you anticipate some clouds and the occasional shower with those cheeky isolated thunderstorms popping up unexpectedly.
So, gear up for Mother Nature’s little waterworks show, and remember to stay safe and dry!
