Weather Alert
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30pm on Friday, March 7, 2025
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A Special Weather Bulletin is waving its flag for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across Viti Levu. Yes, we’re expecting a wild weather ride, so do check back for updates at www.met.gov.fj/index.php?page=warn1#20044.txt if you can wrestle that rain-soaked tablet away from the kids!
Situation Report: A weak trough of low pressure has decided to throw a little party over the group. It’s like that slow-moving friend who needs a little extra time to get things rolling, and unfortunately, this one comes with some clouds and showers. Expect the festivities to continue for the next few days.
Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Occasional showers with isolated thunderstorms, especially over the western half of Viti Levu (we’re looking at you, Korolevu to Sigatoka and the lively Momi-Nadi-Ba-Rakiraki area), Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Kadavu, and the smaller islands. The rest can expect some cloudy periods, a few showers, and the occasional afternoon or evening thunderstorm trying to steal the spotlight. Just remember, isolated heavy rain could potentially lead to flash floods in low-lying areas, so keep an eye on those puddles!
Gusty winds will be your companions with moderate to fresh southerly to northwesterly breezes, and expect moderate seas to add a little drama to your water activities.
Sunday Outlook: The clouds remain the star of the show, with intermittent showers and isolated thunderstorms ready to crash the party in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Northern Division, Kadavu, Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. Isolated heavy rain could take center stage. For the rest, it might be a partly cloudy affair with some afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms adding to the excitement.
Regional Breakdowns:
Navua/Suva/Nausori: Think cloudy with a side of showers, and maybe some afternoon thunder lightning up your day.
Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Occasional showers and a dash of isolated thunderstorms. A thrilling combo if you’re into weather drama.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: More of the same with an encore of occasional showers and thunderstorms.
Tavua/Rakiraki: Showers and drama, isolated thunderstorms included. Expect cloudy periods and potential thunderous applause.
Yasawa/Mamanuca: Occasional showers may join in on the thunderstorm fest.
Labasa / Savusavu: Prepare for clouds and showers with a sprinkle of afternoon thunder to keep things lively.
Lau/Lomaiviti: Cloudy periods embracing some showers and the occasional popping thunderstorm.
Kadavu: Rinse and repeat—occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are back!
Rotuma: The party continues here with our guest thunder and showers, all encouraged by moderate to fresh northwesterly winds and rough seas.
And there you have it! Don’t forget your rain gear, and may your umbrellas have a sturdy enough backbone for this glamorous weather show! Stay safe and dry!
