The Nadi weather office has issued a severe thunderstorm warning due to expected heavy rainfall affecting various regions of Fiji, particularly the interior and southwestern parts of Viti Levu. The warning, which went into effect at 2:30 PM, affects areas from Momi and Sigatoka along the Coral Coast to Navua, Serua-Namosi, as well as parts of Nadroga Navosa, Naitasiri, Bua, Western Macuata, and Western Cakaudrove.

This alert comes as a trough of low pressure approaches Fiji from the southwest, increasing the likelihood of severe thunderstorms that may result in flash flooding over the next several hours. Residents in the affected areas are strongly advised to avoid flooded creeks and drains, and to refrain from walking, biking, or driving through any floodwaters to ensure their safety.

The warnings issued align with prior notifications regarding unstable weather conditions in these areas, highlighting the importance of vigilance and preparedness among communities. Local authorities continue to encourage residents to stay informed, follow necessary safety precautions, and assist one another during this challenging weather event.

As Fiji braces for the impending storms, the situation underscores the resilience and unity of the Fijian people in the face of natural challenges. By staying proactive and informed, communities can significantly enhance their safety and navigate these adverse weather conditions together.

In summary, it is crucial for residents to heed the safety advisories and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones during this time of severe weather. This period can serve as an opportunity for communities to come together and support one another, showcasing their strength in the face of adversity.
