The RC Manubhai 7’/14” Nataleira Sevens is set to enhance their tournament with new by-laws that will take place from December 12 to 14 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori. Tournament director Solo Finau shared that a bonus points system has been introduced, aiming to benefit all participating teams.
Organizers are targeting a participation of about 80 teams in this four-tier competition structure. The first tier is designated for champion teams, tier two will host regular teams, tier three is set for senior women’s teams, and tier four is dedicated to Under-19 competitors.
Finau expressed a commitment to innovating and revitalizing interest in sevens tournaments across the nation. He highlighted that these changes not only provide financial benefits to the teams but also foster player development. “We have restructured the competition to help local players thrive in challenging situations,” he mentioned, emphasizing the importance of strategic play in winning.
To further engage teams, instant rewards will be provided following matches. Individual players scoring tries from their own in-goal area will receive a $100 bonus, and team captains will also be rewarded $100 for team tries.
Additional cash rewards will be offered for various achievements, including the most converted tries, drop goals, and penalty goals by a team, with winners receiving $100 each after the tournament. An exciting challenge awaits teams aiming to match or break Alosio Naduva’s fast try record of 6.78 seconds, with a $100 reward for those who qualify.
Sanctioned by the Fiji Rugby Union, the tournament is set to officially launch on December 6, with hopes high for vibrant competition and renewed enthusiasm for the sport.
This tournament not only fosters competition but also serves as a platform for local talent to shine, perhaps opening doors for future opportunities in rugby. As the excitement builds, it promises to be an engaging event for players and fans alike.
