A national sevens rugby player, Kavekini Tanivanuakula, faced legal trouble after being arrested for suspected drink driving at the Nadi Temple checkpoint on Saturday night. Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu confirmed that Tanivanuakula has since been charged and released. He is set to appear in the Nadi Magistrate’s Court on February 17, 2025, for further proceedings.
Tanivanuakula recently made headlines earlier this month when he debuted for the Fiji national team at the Dubai Sevens, contributing to their impressive victory, which marked their first SVNS title after 25 HSBC tournaments.
It’s worth noting that athletes, often viewed as role models, can face challenges both on and off the field. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior for public figures. Hopefully, Tanivanuakula can learn from this experience and continue to build on his promising rugby career while taking more care in his personal conduct.
