Spread the love

The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens aims for continuous improvement, enhancing the tournament experience for fans and participants alike each year. Tournament committee chairman Jay Whyte emphasized the local nature of the event, which allows spectators to enjoy top-tier international sevens rugby without the cost typically associated with major tournaments, such as those on the HSBC Sevens World Series.

“We aim to elevate the quality of competition annually,” Whyte explained, underscoring the desire for an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere for fans and special guests alike. New features for the upcoming tournament include a dedicated fan zone, where attendees can interact with invited stars, take photos, and obtain autographs, alongside various food stalls and kiosks for refreshments.

The event will see a boost in its visibility and professionalism, thanks to Rasta Rasivhenge managing social media communications and an international commentary team that includes notable figures such as Shaun Maloney, Greg Clark, and NRL legends like Lote Tuqiri and Waisale Serevi.

Whyte encouraged all rugby enthusiasts in Fiji to attend the tournament, which takes place next week. “This international sevens event is right in our backyard, and all it takes is a quick drive or bus ride to Lawaqa Park to witness the excitement,” he remarked. The potential for a thrilling final between teams from New Zealand and Fiji adds to the anticipation, paving the way for yet another memorable chapter in the rivalry.

Overall, the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens represents not just a significant rugby event but also a growing local celebration of sports, community, and culture, which highlights the passion for rugby in Fiji and encourages wider participation and enthusiasm among fans.
