Sanaila Duono, a 26-year-old player from Nalidi, Ra, has expressed his desire to wear the national sevens jersey, emphasizing that age should not limit anyone’s aspirations in sports. Duono showcased his talent while representing the PWD Bure team at the Tier Two division of the R.C Manubhai Nataleira 7s tournament held at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.
Duono pointed out that local competitions like the Nataleira 7s serve as vital platforms for teams from rural areas, stating, “This team represents the 14 provinces, and the door is always open for anyone to join.” He actively sought players from various regions, including Naitaisiri and Dawasamu, to strengthen his team. Acknowledging the challenges of training during the festive season, he emphasized the potential of his players to represent the national sevens squad in the future.
Expressing gratitude to supporters and stakeholders for their financial assistance with food, transport, and registration fees, Duono revealed that the primary goal of the team is to demonstrate their skills and talent. He is committed to improving his fitness and preparation for upcoming tournaments, having faced numerous injuries in the past.
Despite a setback in their first match against Gau Kacau, where they lost 7-19, Duono remains optimistic about strengthening communication and discipline within the team for future games. Inspired by his fellow villager, Iliesa Nadai, a former national sevens representative, Duono is determined to make a mark in the sport.
Overall, Sanaila Duono’s story highlights resilience and the importance of community support in sports. His dedication to improving his team’s performance and fostering new talent is an encouraging reminder that opportunities abound for those who work hard and remain committed.
