A group of seven talented young swimmers embarked on their journey to Sydney this week to participate in the Oceania Aquatics training and competition camp, which began on Thursday and will run until December 20. This initiative aims to prepare athletes for future Olympic events, specifically the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
The swimmers representing our region are Reuben Taylor, Vivita Bai, Theola Kwong, Thaddeus Kwong, Charlina Simpson, Keenan Kostatino, and Jamesa Younger, all under the expert guidance of coach Paula Cokanasiga. This high-performance program is designed to bring together emerging athletes from across Oceania, providing them with essential training, exposure, and competition experiences.
In addition to the training camp, the swimmers will compete in the Senior State Age Championships from December 13-19 at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. This event offers them the opportunity to achieve qualifying times and developmental benchmarks while gaining invaluable international experience that will contribute to their growth as elite athletes.
The participation of these swimmers not only highlights their dedication and hard work but also showcases the potential of aquatic sports in the region. With the support of such programs, the future looks bright for these young athletes as they aspire to make their mark on the world stage.
