Seven local hockey players have departed for the Solomon Islands to participate in the Female FIH World Youth Hockey5s Festival, which kicks off tomorrow. For the next four days, these players will engage in workshops, training camps, and matches aimed at enhancing their skills on the field.
This festival is part of the Oceania Hockey Federation’s initiative to broaden opportunities for women and girls in the sport, particularly focusing on fortifying pathways in coaching and officiating. The camp is designed to offer an international program that emphasizes skill development, knowledge sharing, and education.
Alongside the athlete development activities, there will also be parallel programs for umpires, coaches, and youth leadership. Participants can expect a variety of practical skills sessions and educational workshops, all while creating valuable connections with peers from across the Pacific.
This initiative not only aims to enhance the skill set of the players but also encourages a supportive network among young female athletes, fostering community and collaboration in the sport of hockey. The focus on education and leadership will empower these young players both on and off the field, contributing positively to the future of women’s hockey in the region.
