The High Court in Lautoka heard yesterday that the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad are considering a settlement regarding defamation proceedings initiated by Prof Prasad during the 2022 General Elections.
In October 2022, Prof Prasad’s legal team filed defamation claims against Hiroshi Taniguchi, a former NFP election candidate, and the FBC for allegedly publishing “false and defamatory” statements made by Mr. Taniguchi to the national broadcaster.
The case was presented before Master of the High Court, Preetika Prasad.
Prof Prasad was represented by Simran Reddy, while Ashanal Gounder and Nilesh Kumar appeared for FBC and Mr. Taniguchi, respectively.
Master Prasad allowed time for both parties’ lawyers to file the conditions of the settlement.
The matter has been adjourned to August 8.
