Toulouse winger Setareki Bituniyata has officially signed with Provence Rugby, a club in France’s Pro D2 league. According to reports, the versatile 29-year-old, who has recently completed his season after a serious knee injury, will join Provence for the next two years.

Bituniyata sustained a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee during his last match for Toulouse, a 17-all draw against Lyon on December 22. His impressive run with Toulouse included 20 matches and four tries, showcasing the skills that made him a World Cup wildcard last season.

By moving to Provence Rugby, currently ranked fourth in the Pro D2 championship, Bituniyata will be looking to rejuvenate his career following the injury setback. He will fill the spot left by fellow Fijian player Eto Bainivalu, who is currently on loan from Toulouse.

This move highlights the growing trend of Fijian players making a significant impact in European rugby, as seen with other recent happenings in the Pro D2. Notable transfers include veteran Flying Fijians like Jale Vatubua and Aminiasi Tuimaba, who are leaving French Top 14 club Pau to join Pro D2 sides. These shifts reflect not just individual ambitions but also the dynamic nature of rugby careers, where players seek new opportunities to showcase their talent.

As Bituniyata embarks on this new chapter, it serves as a reminder of the resilience of athletes returning from injury, and the importance of seizing new opportunities in the competitive world of rugby. Overall, the future looks promising for both him and Provence Rugby as they head into the upcoming season.
