According to Coach Peni Ratumaiyale, the association was established to combat the disturbing trends affecting young people today.
“The purpose of forming this association is to get these kids away from the things that are happening nowadays,” said Ratumaiyale, emphasizing the need for a constructive alternative to drugs and other negative influences. The organization’s focus on promoting volleyball serves as a crucial way to engage youth in meaningful activities that contribute to their personal development and community wellbeing.
Despite facing challenges related to funding and travel expenses, the association has taken commendable steps to ensure that all players can participate without financial hindrances. Coach Ratumaiyale noted that they are covering the necessary fees to maintain accessibility for all involved.
The long-term objective of the Nursery Volleyball Association is clear: to nurture talent and aim for national championships. The association has already celebrated success, with one of its teams emerging victorious at this year’s National Inter-Club Championship, which highlights the effectiveness of their efforts.
They also made a notable comeback at the Vulaca volleyball tournament, fielding both men’s and women’s teams for the first time in 10 years, thus revitalizing interest in the sport within the community.
This initiative is reminiscent of the efforts made by the Nasinu Volleyball Alliance, which recently organized a tournament to reinvigorate volleyball in Nasinu after a decade-long hiatus. Like the Nursery Volleyball Association, the Nasinu Alliance focuses on using volleyball as a vehicle for positive change, aiming to address broader social issues through sporting engagement.
