Seruiratu Demands Justice: What’s Behind FICAC’s Deputy Resignation?

Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has asserted that his party will not relent in their pursuit of justice for Francis Puleiwai, the acting Deputy Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), who resigned from her position yesterday. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her departure.

Mr. Seruiratu posed three key questions. Firstly, he inquired about instructions Ms. Puleiwai received regarding delays in filing charges, seeking to identify who issued those instructions. Secondly, he questioned why the Attorney-General had not mentioned that Barbara Malimali is still under a contract with the Constitutional Offices Commission, signed by the President, serving as the chairman of the Electoral Commission. He urged for clarity on her eligibility for her role while still under contract.

Lastly, he expressed concern over the ongoing pursuit of the matter, highlighting the necessity for thorough investigations given the evidence present. Mr. Seruiratu stressed that this is a serious issue that should not be underestimated.

He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and the rule of law, suggesting that investor confidence is crucial. He warned that without faith in the governance system and law enforcement, Fiji risks losing potential investors, which are vital for job creation and economic stability.
