Serua’s Silent Battle: HIV and the Drug Threat

The Health Ministry is taking proactive steps to address health issues in the Serua Province, particularly focusing on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), with reports indicating 11 active cases in the area.

This commitment was highlighted by Jovesa Vocea, the Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, during the celebration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty in Serua.

Vocea urged community members to be alert and raise awareness about the dangers of drug use, which can contribute to rising social problems, including increased crime, domestic violence, sexual assault, and the spread of HIV and AIDS.

He emphasized that tackling these challenges is not something the people of Serua can manage alone; they need to engage in open discussions, learn from successful practices, and share their experiences to collectively work towards eliminating poverty.

Vocea pointed out that drug abuse remains a significant hindrance to societal development, adversely impacting the youth. He noted that in the past two years, there have been two reported incidents of unlawful possession of drugs and one case of the illegal cultivation of drugs in Serua.
