Statistics released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions reveal that 274 individuals faced a total of 344 counts of serious crimes last year. Among those charged, 18 were minors under the age of 18, and five were serving police officers.

The data highlights a troubling number of victims, with 198 reported in connection to the serious offences. Notably, the report indicates that in 32 instances, the accused and the victims were related, showcasing a concerning trend of familial violence.

Additionally, it was reported that 11 cases were discontinued in 2025 for various reasons, which raises questions about the judicial process and the factors influencing legal outcomes in serious crime cases.

This information underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and the judicial system in addressing serious crime and protecting vulnerable populations. While the report reflects a complex landscape, it also serves as a call to action for communities to strengthen support systems for both victims and at-risk individuals.
