Fiji’s sevens rugby legend, Waisale Serevi, is set to join the coaching team for the Fiji Sports Council’s (FSC) under-20 7s squad. This announcement was made by the FSC on their Facebook page, highlighting the significance of Serevi’s involvement in nurturing young talent.
Serevi met with FSC CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure in Sigatoka recently to kick off this collaborative effort. Dubbed a maestro of the sport, Serevi’s role will be crucial as he partners with head coach Sireli Bobo and other coaches to bring valuable experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to prepare the rising stars of Fijian rugby.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Serevi is working with the FSC to launch sports camps for athletes aged 17 to 20. These camps will emphasize not only skill development but also drug awareness, further promoting the holistic growth of young athletes.
The FSC U20 7s team consists of players chosen from various clubs that participated in the FSC U20 7s, a tournament designed to identify and develop future representatives for Fiji at various levels. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the FSC and the Fiji Rugby Union, aimed at creating a strong foundation for aspiring rugby players.
Serevi’s involvement is expected to elevate the prospects of Fijian rugby by mentoring the next generation and laying the groundwork for future success on both local and international stages.
This partnership underscores a hopeful vision for the future of Fijian rugby, with seasoned players mentoring the youth to create a thriving sports culture that celebrates excellence and resilience.
