Waisale Serevi, the celebrated sevens rugby legend, has announced his collaboration with the coaching panel of the Fiji Sports Council’s (FSC) Under-20 sevens squad. This significant partnership was publicly revealed through the FSC’s social media channels following a meeting between Serevi and FSC CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure in Sigatoka.

Serevi’s involvement is seen as a vital step in nurturing young talent within Fijian rugby. He will work alongside head coach Sireli Bobo and additional coaching staff, sharing his extensive experience and passion for the sport with the up-and-coming players. This mentorship is expected to pave the way for a bright future for Fijian rugby, especially as the Under-20 team prepares for its upcoming international tour to New Zealand, scheduled for January 29.

In addition to his coaching duties, Serevi is also committed to establishing sports camps aimed at athletes aged 17 to 20, which will focus on talent development and drug awareness, thereby ensuring a comprehensive growth experience for young athletes. These initiatives align with the FSC’s mission to cultivate potential national representatives from the grassroots level, as players for the U20 team have been selected from the recent FSC U20 sevens series—a collaborative effort with the Fiji Rugby Union.

Serevi’s contributions are anticipated to invigorate the national team and foster a thriving sports culture in Fiji. The combination of his mentorship and the structured development programs will likely create a strong foundation for the next generation of rugby stars, reinforcing the importance of mentorship and community support in achieving excellence in sports.

In summary, Waisale Serevi’s collaboration with the FSC underscored not just a commitment to developing young athletes but also a hopeful vision for the future of Fijian rugby. His guidance can inspire a future where these young players grow to represent Fiji with pride on both local and international stages.
